Medicare

Medicare supplement insurance is a private insurance policy designed to help cover out-of-pocket health care costs of Original Medicare (Part A and Part B). There are 10 standardized Medigap plans (labeled A-D, F, G and K-N) available in most states, each offering different benefits.

Medigap is designed to help fill in the “gaps” left by Original Medicare, which may include copayments, coinsurance and deductibles.

Some Medigap plans offer coverage for health care not provided by Original Medicare. For example, Original Medicare generally does not cover health care services outside the United States. Some Medigap plans offer coverage for emergency medical care during foreign travel, typically covering up to 80% of the billed charges for certain medically necessary emergency care outside the United States after meeting a deductible.
